We are home all day, mostly, and use our kitchen throughout the day. My children wash their hands in there. We cook. Make coffee and tea at all hours. So there is a lot of water that lands on the floor.
We would keep our mop out, ready to go. It's one of those spinner type mops that have a removable head (bless) to wash as needed.
Many times I would have to stop in the middle of cooking to get the mop, dry the floor, then wash my hands to get back to cooking only to have to do it again minutes later.
One day after washing it, I brought it back to the kitchen and dropped it on the floor. There was already water on the floor and I wasn't near the handle, so I just used my foot on top of the detached mop head to wipe it.
I never went back to the handle. I have a steam mop that I use for mopping, so I just put the handle of the spinner mop in the closet and it's not tripping us up. Often times while cooking, I drag it along under my foot without even thinking about it.
The whole family uses this concept. It's also fun to fling it across the floor if it's needed somewhere else.
I wash/sanitize it every couple of days or as needed. The mop came with 2 heads, so I can switch them out if one gets used for cleaning something other than water up.
