I drink coffee. I didn't feel the urge for coffee until after I had 2 children, which was at age 33. For a while, I tried the mega coffee chains for fancy drinks, but now I find that one coffee place in particular gives me horrible cramps. If I am forced to socialize there, I always get a Chai drink.
I don't know if I need coffee or it is more of a comforting factor. Dad had coffee every morning and the smell wafted through out the house. In the months before the flood when his health was declining, he enjoyed a cup at night. Like many people his age, he didn't really care for the freshly ground beans. His favorite was Maxwell House. He drank it black.
I remember fondly that my grandmother drank hers with canned milk and sugar. That is one of my favorite ways to drink it if we happen to have an open can that needs to be used. On special occasions, like when I make beignets at home, I will make myself a Cafe Au Lait. So delicious!
I like my coffee like I like my men: tall, brown and sweet. That's silly, but it's true. I only drink one mug a day unless I know I'll have a late night. I usually add sugar and heavy cream and in better times, bought syrups to make my own coffee creations at home. I have even learn how to make a caramel macchiato at home which wasn't too bad because I do make my own caramel sauce. But doing these drinks everyday is not practical and the calories add up, because I only do full fat milks, baby. #fattelatte
I love an amaretto flavor. Being on a budget of both time and money made me seek out something at the local grocery store, which is Krogers for me. (Fun fact: in Colorado, the same chain is called "King Soopers." That helps us a lot with fuel points while on vacation.) I found an amaretto flavor in the store brand. I really liked it! I don't even use the recommended serving size. I use less and there is no need for additional sugar.
You can't beat the regular $2.99 price or the $2.50 sale price. Believe me, I consider myself a coffee snob for the fact that we prefer to get our whole beans from our local roasting house, Payton's Blend.
Apparently, someone else in the neighborhood really likes amaretto because for a while, I couldn't find it on the shelf. I bought French Vanilla for my mother and reluctantly bought the cinnamon flavor. I left the cinnamon creamer alone for a couple of days and went back to heavy creamer with turbinado sugar.
When I finally tried the cinnamon flavor, it really surprised me at how good it was! It's my favorite now.
I consider this another example of how to be Minimally Fancy. I start with a good quality product then add other components that are less expensive but still ensure a great end product. #minimallyfancy for the win.
